SCMA Receives Grant for Water System Improvements

The Schuylkill County Municipal Authority (SCMA) is proud to announce that it has received a Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) grant in the amount of $8,219,243, and a low-interest loan of $230,757 for upgrades to its Morea Well Treatment Facility.  The project will provide a new deep well pump, iron/manganese treatment system, chemical fee applications and 2 booster pumps to supply 120 residential connections in the Village of Morea, Mahanoy Township, PA, including new service lines and water meters.  The project will also supply supplemental water to the SCMA Mt. Laurel System which currently serves potable water and fire protection to two State Prisons, a Federal Correctional Institute, Highridge Business Park, Mahanoy Business Park and residential customers in the Village of New Boston.

SCMA Executive Director Patrick M. Caulfield, P.E. said “The Authority is profoundly grateful for the generous offer from PENNVEST for our Morea Well Project.  This initiative will ensure a reliable source of public water and fire protection for the residents of the Village of Morea who have endured an unreliable and failing system for many years. The innovative design will integrate seamlessly with our existing system, providing a shared supplemental water supply for the entire network. Residents of Morea will benefit from new water service lines that adhere to the Lead and Copper Rule. We also wish to extend our sincere thanks to both Representative Dane Watro and Senator Dave Argall for their unwavering support of the project, including the Senator’s efforts in drafting legislation to resolve a property ownership issue that was uncovered during the design.”

“These projects showcase what can be accomplished through dedicated partnerships between state and local government officials,” said state Sen. David Argall, R-29.

“By providing funding for critical water infrastructure projects, we can ensure our local governments can improve essential services, enhance public health, and create long-term economic stability for residents and businesses alike,” Watro, R-116, said in a statement.

Construction is slated to begin in 2025.

REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS
Schuylkill County Municipal Authority is soliciting Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the selection of an Energy Services Company (ESCO). The RFQ is available for download via the following link: SCMA-Guaranteed-Energy-Savings-RFQ-2024. The RFQ contains information and requirements for ESCOs to prepare and submit qualification proposals for a guaranteed energy savings contract in accordance with Act 77 of 2004, Act 39 of 2010, the Guaranteed Energy Savings Act. Qualification proposals must be submitted by no later than 2:00 pm on Monday, December 16, 2024 in a sealed envelope and clearly marked: Qualification Proposal for Guaranteed Energy Savings.  Please contact us with any questions at 570-622-8240 or info@scmawater.com.

Water Conservation 

Due to current drought conditions, we ask all Customers to reduce their water usage until further notice

Here are some recommendations for conserving water:

• Run dishwashers and clothes washers only when they are full.
• Do not fill or top off swimming pools.
• Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth or washing dishes in the sink.
• Use a broom instead of a hose to clean your sidewalk, driveway or patio.
• Limit watering grass and other outdoor plants.
• Limit washing or cleaning of mobile equipment, like vehicles.

SCMA Celebrates 190^th Anniversary

Today, April 11, 2024, the Schuylkill County Municipal Authority celebrates a significant milestone of 190 years in business! On this day, in 1834, the Articles of Incorporation of the Pottsville Water Company were executed. We are extremely humbled and proud to celebrate this anniversary with our dedicated staff, who continues to work around the clock to provide the most valuable asset of an abundant, clean, fresh supply of drinking water and fire protection to our Schuylkill County Customers.

SCMA Awarded Federal Funding

Schuylkill County Municipal Authority  is proud to report; U.S. Congressman Dan Meuser (R-9) announced $2.75 Million in federal funding for the Mount Laurel Interconnect Project. The project will connect the Mahanoy Township Authority and Schuylkill County Municipal Authority systems to address essential needs for supplemental drinking water and fire protection.

SCMA’s Patrick Caulfield & Amy Batdorf receive PaWARN’s Prestigious 2023 Gold Star Award

Schuylkill County Municipal Authority’s Executive Director Patrick Caulfield and Assistant Executive Director Amy Batdorf, both recently received the 2023 PaWARN (Pennsylvania Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network) Gold Star Award in recognition of their exceptional commitment to emergency response and their dedication to mutual aid by utilizing PaWARN during the Mt. Laurel Emergency in the fall of 2022 that affected two State Correctional Institutions.

PennVest Loan Awarded to SCMA

Schuylkill County Municipal Authority was awarded a loan to construct a second water storage tank at the Broad Mountain Water Filtration and Treatment Facility in New Castle Township. The new tank will provide additional water storage, improving the ability of the municipal authority to prevent interruptions in water service in case of emergencies or required maintenance.
